Suffolk DSA Reads "Settlers: The Mythology of the White Proletariat" by J. Sakai
J. Sakai’s “Settlers” is like Howard Zinn’s “A People’s History of the United States” with a sharper focus on settler colonialism and the immaturity of the American left. Sakai argues against the “mythology of the white proletariat,” concluding that settler leftists in the US have consistently failed to become a truly revolutionary force. For 6 weeks, from July 27th to August 31st, the Suffolk County DSA Political Education Committee will be hosting a reading group to examine and discuss this revelatory text. We invite you to join us in this learning and unlearning experience.
