Support for MCRP Historical Marker

The Madison County Remembrance Project seeks to install a historical marker in downtown Huntsville for the five victims who were lynched in the downtown area.

We are seeking the public's suppport as we talk with city leaders. Please sign if you give your public support.

In 2017, a group of Madison County residents created the Madison County Remembrance Project (MCRP) in partnership with the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) in Montgomery.

The purpose of this project is to advance truth and reconciliation around race and to more honestly confront the legacy of slavery, lynching, and segregation.

Soil collections for these victims give us the space and time to come together and recognize each documented victim in our county. Families in our community can still remember racial terror lynchings - or the stories of them. We have seen conversations that offer a chance for healing.

Our most recent event was the racial terror historical marker dedication for Robert Mosley in December 2024. This is the first marker of its kind in Madison County. More than 80 of these markers have been installed in counties across the country since 2015.

If your organization or company would like to support this cause, please email info@unitedwoc.org.
