Support SB 423: Make SB 35 permanent and build more housing!
By accelerating the approval times for affordable housing projects, SB 35 has led to the streamlined approval of over 11,000 homes statewide, most of them subsidized homes affordable to low-income families.
Unfortunately, when SB 35 passed it included a sunset clause. That means it will expire on January 1, 2026 – unless the legislature acts to extend it.
California YIMBY stands with Sen. Scott Wiener, affordable housing developers, construction workers, and other leaders to introduce SB 423. It will not only make the provisions of SB 35 permanent, it also expands them to create stronger incentives for mixed-income housing.
California needs to pull out all the stops to build as much housing as possible. SB 423 will turbo-charge the construction of mixed-income housing – just as SB 35 did for subsidized affordable housing. But its passage is no sure thing.
