We just heard that the Department of Justice is considering a lawsuit to break up the Ticketmaster-Live Nation monopoly on live entertainment.

The lawsuit could be filed in the next few weeks -- but Ticketmaster’s lobbyists are working hard to block it before that happens.

Ticketmaster’s monopoly means that consumers and industry professionals are facing:

• Increased ticket prices
• Rip-off junk fees that can equate to 75% of a ticket’s value
• Anticompetitive behavior that bullies independent venues and artists
• Ticket prices that can change once they’ve been added to a customer’s cart
• Limitations on buying only one ticket

More Perfect Union has spent years covering how Live Nation/Ticketmaster uses its dominance to punish and steal from ticket buyers, artists, and indie promoters. We’ve sent tens of thousands of messages and personal stories to the DoJ urging them to investigate Ticketmaster’s illegal monopoly. This lawsuit would be the culmination of that campaign.
