Take Action: Don’t let ICE weaponize Social Security!

Social Security workers are issuing a warning: higher-ups at the Social Security Administration are ordering workers to hand over sensitive information to ICE. This completely undermines the trust Americans place in Social Security, a bedrock institution for our families.

Social Security works because people believe it is neutral, safe, and focused on benefits—not surveillance.

Take Action: tell the Social Security Administration: Stop collaborating with ICE!

Americans go to Social Security to claim retirement benefits, disability benefits, and help for their children. They should not have to fear that walking into a government office could put them or their family members at risk of detention or deportation.

Undocumented immigrants are not eligible to receive Social Security, although they pay billions into the system every year. However, they might attend a Social Security appointment for a variety of reasons, including accompanying a child who is a citizen.

ICE has wrongfully deported people, including US citizens. Giving ICE easier access to people’s location and timing information increases the risk of catastrophic, irreversible mistakes.

Because the Supreme Court has given ICE permission to conduct what are called ‘Kavanaugh stops’―using racial profiling to harass anyone they want―and ICE’s propensity to violently escalate encounters, this weaponization of Social Security will stop citizens from accessing the benefits they’ve earned through a lifetime of work.

Even Leland Dudek, who was promoted to Acting Commissioner of Social Security for his close collaboration with DOGE, recognizes this as what it is, admitting that “You’re seeing SSA becoming an extension of Homeland Security.”

Take action! Tell the Social Security Administration: Keep ICE out of Social Security offices!
