Take Action To Defend Dissent
In a democracy, dissent is protected and even valued. When we can dissent without fear of reprisal, we know we are free. Every day, individuals are losing their jobs, being jailed, or facing deportation. Those who exercise their freedom of speech or assembly are being surveilled, policed, and even killed. Teachers are facing repercussions for teaching history that influential figures want to erase. The president is using the Department of Justice as a weapon against his political opponents, targeting anyone who disagrees with him.
Defend Dissent mobilizes everyday people who are concerned about the lasting impacts of unjust and unconstitutional attacks on free speech, protests, social movements, and criticism of the government.
Each time the Trump Administration attacks a dissenter, we must act together to demonstrate that they cannot and will not stop us from using our fundamental rights of free speech, protest, and collective action.
Dissenters defend freedoms and expand our collective imagination of what's possible in our vast nation.
Right now, they're under attack.
Attacks on dissent thrive in the dark. Let’s put them in the light.
We’re collecting real stories of people whose right to dissent has been violated from protests to workplaces to classrooms.
