In 2022, after being allowed to ignore the indigenous land rights of the Wangan and Jagalingou people, Carmichael made its first shipment of coal to the new Godda power station in India. If allowed to go further, Adani’s Carmichael coal mine will unlock the Galilee Basin – one of the world's largest untouched coal reserves – paving the way for at least eight more coal mines to be built.

The sale and burning of Adani coal is only possible because of the mine's dedicated rail infrastructure – which is being insured here in the U.K. by Lloyd's of London syndicate, Probitas.
