Tampa Local exposing how HART is breaking riders' hearts

This Valentine’s Day week Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority (HART) bus drivers passed out leaflets telling riders their buses are regularly sent out with brakes that don't work and poor ventilation systems that expose them to dangerous diesel exhaust. The members of Local 1593-Tampa, FL, urged riders to contact new HART CEO Benjamin Limmer to ask him to fix these issues and ensure a safe ride for all. “I think it's great that the drivers would come here to inform the riders about these issues,” said James Ascher, 58, who has ridden the bus in Tampa for 40 years. While the agency has been crying poor the Local points out that HART’s budget will double after voters approved a one-cent transportation sales tax in November, generating more than $130 million each year.
