TA Workers United - CWA Vision Statement:

We, the workers of Tutor Associates, are proud to announce that we are forming a union represented by the Communications Workers of America Local 1180. We are a community of compassionate and thoughtful education workers invigorated by collaboration. We are building a union to ensure our seat at the table to negotiate our wages and working conditions into a contract in collaboration with management. We want our voice protected as we work to build a more sustainable, secure, and safe workplace, so we can all continue to thrive together at TA.

Sustainable

We are forming a union to ensure that our workplace provides us the necessary support to build a future at TA. We would like our commitment to the company to be met with the same commitment from TA management, by bargaining in good faith for a contract that creates more sustainable careers and higher quality of life for workers. This includes a more robust benefits package, with improved healthcare and retirement.

Secure

We are forming a union to stabilize our financial security as employees of TA. We aim to negotiate a clearer and more consistent system regarding hours, pay, PTO, promotions, and discipline. As part of our job, we are expected to be flexible with our schedules to meet students’ needs, but this doesn’t mean our pay should be unstable. We deserve to be compensated at a rate that allows us stability throughout the year, as well as for non-session work and transportation costs. We care about the quality of education we provide, and we know that only through a union contract that addresses financial security and outlines clear expectations can we perform at our best.

Safe

We are forming a union to ensure that everyone at TA can do their job safely, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic. We demand to negotiate for concrete processes and protocols to address racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and chauvinism of all kinds at work. We know this is only possible through explicit support for our safety as workers in all work environments. This requires clear and protected measures for reporting inappropriate or concerning behavior from clients, as well as more extensive protection for workers regarding Covid-19 safety, including PPE, cancellation policies around client illness, support for workers who wish to stay remote, and the contractual obligation of clients to follow these safety measures.

We ask for voluntary recognition of our union by the managerial staff of Tutor Associates. We hope that you’ll support us and bargain with us in good faith knowing that we are the backbone of TA.
