Tell Congress: Overturn Trump's Attack on Clean Energy

President Trump's executive order to block new leases for wind turbines in federal waters and review existing clean energy projects is a direct threat to our progress toward a sustainable energy future. This decision risks projects off the coasts of Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Virginia. Blocking these and other clean energy plans could bring the transition to renewables that can position the US as a world leader to a grinding halt.
Trump's move to boost fossil fuel production while standing in the way of clean energy is not only environmentally regressive but economically unsound. This will likely cost each of us more–in order to prop up Trump’s “Energy Dominance” vision. Economists warn of skyrocketing consumer costs and market disruptions, as Trump's policies could send more natural gas abroad, limiting domestic supply–threatening our energy independence.
Slowing the clean energy transition will threaten hundreds-of-thousands of jobs across the country and leave us all mired in reliance on destructive fossil fuels.
The supposed "national energy emergency" Trump has called for should focus on creating clean energy jobs for the future instead of rewarding his oil and gas industry cronies while keeping us stuck in the past.
The stakes have never been higher. We need to act swiftly to protect our renewable energy future. Join us in calling on Congress to block these detrimental policy shifts.
Congress must:
Direct funding to wind, solar, and other responsible clean energy projects that can be developed alongside existing communities without threatening them or the environment.
Act legislatively and, if necessary, in the courts to prevent the Trump Administration from “impounding” (illegally and unilaterally withholding this money) the funds directed by Congress–the body of government whose responsibilities include funding government functions and programs.
Conduct oversight. Trump’s nominees have made clear their preference for extractive industries and Secretary of State Rubio has already implemented Trump policies freezing spending. Congress must do its job of acting as a check on this administration, even if that involves shadow hearings held outside of republican committee control.
Sign the petition opposing Trump's attack on clean energy and supporting action by Congress. Trump’s immediate, out-of-the-gate attacks on climate progress show that we have to act just as quickly to safeguard the strides we've made in clean energy and push for a future that values environmental responsibility over short-term gains.
