Tell Congress: Pass the “Billionaire Minimum Income Tax” to limit the political power of America’s richest families
Already in the 2024 election, just 50 billionaire families have spent more than $600 million in an attempt to rig our democracy in their favor.
In the latest report from Americans for Tax Fairness titled “The Billionaire Family Business” we found that more than two-thirds (69%) of those donations were made to Republican or conservative causes and that more than half of those donations can be attributed to just 10 billionaire families including infamous conservative families such as the Kochs, Mellons, and Waltons.
Billionaires are spending this money to create policies that make them even richer, such as by cutting income taxes on the wealthy and corporations, and weakening the estate tax to protect dynastic wealth.
To curb billionaire wealth and power, we’re fighting for the Billionaire Minimum Income Tax, proposed by President Biden and introduced in the House by Representatives Steve Cohen (D-TN) and Don Beyer (D-VA).
The Billionaire Minimum Income Tax would ensure that every household worth over $100 million is paying an effective tax rate of at least 25% on their full income each year―including all their gains on investments, most of which now goes untaxed. This would mean less money to corrupt our elections and more money for critical services that lower the costs families pay for healthcare, childcare, nutrition, housing, and other necessities.
The Billionaire Minimum Income Tax would raise more than $500 billion over the next decade—creating a fairer tax system while lowering costs families pay for healthcare, childcare, nutrition, housing, and other necessities.
Add your name now as a grassroots co-sponsor of the Billionaire Minimum Income Tax to demand Congress act to tax the wealth gains of billionaires and ultra-millionaires each year and ensure the wealthiest households are paying income taxes each year, just like working people already do.
