Tell Mark Jenkinson MP: No child left behind in Workington this Christmas

Mark Jenkinson the MP for Workington let down millions of children by voting against calls to extend Free School Meals provision through the school holidays.

In Workington alone, 4,035 children are already trapped in poverty. By Christmas, 200,000 more children across the UK will be pushed below the poverty line.

Covid-19 is having a devastating impact on families in Workington. For many, living in poverty isn’t new. But some are being pushed into poverty for the first time through wage cuts and job losses.

By expanding Free School Meals year-round we could end holiday hunger.

For many children a Free School Meal is the only time they will eat that day.

We’ve all pulled together through the pandemic as a community, now it’s so important that no child is left behind.

We as constituents of Workington were shocked and disappointed that Mark Jenkinson MP voted against the call to extend Free School Meals over the holidays.

We urge Mark Jenkinson MP to reconsider and ask the Prime Minister to fund Free School Meals for the Christmas holidays and beyond.
