The Department of Education has protected and coddled predatory loan servicers for far too long. Predatory loan servicers like MOHELA use deceitful tactics to trap borrowers in what, for some, has become a lifetime of debt. Several lawmakers have come together to call on the Biden Administration to terminate their contract with MOHELA after years of being complicit in the loan servicer’s negligence and exploitation of student loan borrowers. The recent pushback against and deliberate blocking of student debt cancellation efforts by MOHELA has not only directly harmed borrowers but fundamentally violated our rights – it’s time to hold them accountable.
