Tell the Senate: Now is the time to pass the Equality Act.

The petition to the Senate reads: “Put an end to anti-LGBTQ discrimination. Pass the Equality Act now.”

When Republican Congressman Andy Biggs said it would be a "devastating attack on humanity" what was he referring to? A nuclear bomb from a foreign adversary? A newly discovered virus? What about the climate crisis? If you guessed any of those, you'd be wrong. Rep. Biggs was screaming about the dangers of letting young transgender girls and boys play school sports.

Since Election Day, more than half the states in the country have introduced legislation targeting the rights of transgender boys and girls. The bills have innocuous names like Georgia's "Save Girls Sports Act" or Florida's "Promoting Equality of Athletic Opportunity," but don't be fooled. They all have one goal: To discriminate against transgender Americans.

These Republican-led states believe they can get away with this grotesque attack on transgender rights, and they could be right. That is, if the United States Senate doesn't do something to stop them.

Tell the Senate to put an end to the onslaught of discriminatory state bills against transgender people by passing the Equality Act now.

H.R. 5 would amend the Civil Rights Act to protect all Americans from being discriminated against based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. It would provide sweeping protections for people in the LGBTQ community and ban discrimination in employment, school, housing, and public accommodation like restaurants.

The original Equality Act was introduced during the Trump administration, but it had little chance of passing the Senate or being signed into law since Trump himself was a champion of anti-trans policies, even moving to ban transgender people from serving in the military.

This law is long overdue – and with Democrats in control of the Senate, we have a real chance to pass it soon. No one deserves to be discriminated against because of who they are. Please join us in telling the Senate that now is the time to pass the Equality Act.
