Throughout the assault on Gaza, Kamal Adwan Hospital director Hussam Abu Safiya refused to abandon his patients and remained at the hospital through relentless military assaults, including strikes that critically injured him and killed his son.

Dr. Safiya has been a first-hand source for Drop Site News and other media outlets, testifying to the dire conditions of Gaza’s hospitals amid Israel’s continued attacks.

Now, the Israeli military has set fire to Kamal Adwan Hospital―the last functioning medical facility in northern Gaza―and abducted 240 more Palestinians, including Dr. Safiya.

Dr. Abu Safiya’s detention adds to the over 10,300 Palestinians currently held in Israeli custody, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club. Many of these detainees are held under administrative detention—imprisoned indefinitely without charges or trial. Thousands more Palestinians from Gaza have been detained without any charges.
