Tell the Supreme Court: Stand against authoritarianism. Tell Trump he has to follow the law and unfreeze foreign aid funds.
When Trump took office in January, one of his very first actions was to freeze foreign aid—including support for global health and HIV/AIDS programs.
Lower courts have ruled that Trump’s funding freeze was illegal, and the money must be spent. Now, Trump has filed an emergency appeal to try and keep those billions in life-saving aid from going to those who need it.
He’s asking the MAGA justices on the Supreme Court for a $12 billion pass.
The Congress-approved funding must be spent September 30th. That means the Supreme Court has until September 2nd to stand up to Trump’s authoritarian power grab.
Trump’s Department of Justice is essentially arguing that he can do whatever he wants, as long as he runs down the clock before a gridlocked Congress can stop him.
The MAGA justices have already told Trump he could strip rights from immigrants, fire federal employees en masse, kick transgender folks out of the military, and more on these emergency dockets. Now, they could tell him he doesn’t have to listen to Congress at all.
This is exactly why we have checks and balances. It’s the Supreme Court’s job to step in and force Trump to follow the law.
