Tell Your Attorney General to Investigate Amazon for "Discriminatory and Deceptive" Practices Targeting Black Neighborhoods Now!
Amazon’s promise of two-day Prime delivery comes with a shocking caveat, your zip code might disqualify you, without your knowledge. Investigations reveal that Amazon has secretly excluded specific zip codes from receiving Prime benefits, disproportionately impacting historically underserved communities.
The DC Attorney General has already filed a lawsuit alleging that Amazon covertly removed Ward 7 and 8 neighborhoods from Prime delivery, citing safety concerns for drivers but offering no transparency to its paying customers.
These communities, which are primarily Black and already facing systemic inequities, saw their two-day delivery rates drop from over 72% to as low as 24%. Yet, residents continued paying the same $139 annual fee as everyone else.
This pattern isn’t new. In 2016, similar disparities were uncovered nationwide, prompting Amazon to promise reforms. Yet, here we are again, with certain zip codes left behind. Enough is enough.
Every state’s Attorney General must investigate Amazon’s delivery policies. If they find similar evidence of bias and deception, they must file lawsuits just like DC has done.
We need accountability, transparency, and fairness, not corporate excuses.
