This guide was originally developed by Uplift, a nonprofit organization dedicated to combatting sexual violence in fandom communities through education and advocacy. From 2014 to 2023, Uplift worked with creators, platforms, and convention organizers to create safer fandom communities. During that time Uplift partnered with 15 different organizations across dozens of events to create codes of conduct, run staff training, improve volunteer handbooks, and audit events. As we close this chapter on direct partnerships with events, we have compiled our best practices and resources into this guide.
