The #MuslimAnd LGBTQ Resource Everyone's Talking About. We are not haraam!
Our resources for LGBTQ Muslims and their allies have been circulating for years now at colleges and universities across America, so it was only a matter of time before someone like Yasir Qadhi got a hold of them and started attacking our community. We are so proud his son's school was handing them out for free, but Yasir Qadhi is a hateful conservative known for his homophobic and transphobic views, so of course, he used the moment to stigmatize and attack the Muslim LGBTQ community.
Right now LGBTQ Muslims and their allies need to see validation and support online. Support folks who are #MuslimAnd LGBTQ by downloading these brochures that set off such a firestorm, and sharing their positive message online. Just put in your information, and we'll email you digital copies, along with a social media toolkit so you can show your support for LGBTQ Muslims who are under attack right now.
Young Muslims worked hard to write these brochures, all under the guidance of incredible leaders like Urooj Arshad and Khadija Khan, who founded the Muslim Youth Leadership Council four years ago. But Qadhi's followers have questioned if the authors are even Muslim. They've called them "workers of the Dajjal" (the anti-Christ), "Muslims 4 Zina" (adultery), "enemies of Islam", and "forces of chaos and rebellion." We at the Muslim Youth Leadership Council assure you, we are proud Muslims, and we are so much more. That's why we started the #MuslimAnd campaign years ago - to expand common ideas of who Muslims are. (Take a look at our reach on Twitter here).
Muslims are not monolithic. We are #MuslimAnd Feminists, #MuslimAnd Transgender, #MuslimAnd Nonbinary, #MuslimAnd Queer!
Visibility is powerful. It can change minds, shift culture, and empower folks who've always been written off. Young Muslims questioning their identity or struggling with their sexuality need to hear from supporters now! Please do your part.
