The Stop Burning Trees Election Pledge

Stop Burning Trees Election Pledge: I support an end to all subsidies for burning wood in power stations. Stop Burning Trees. With Biofuelwatch and Stop Burning Trees logos
Biofuelwatch/Stop Burning Trees

Stop Burning Trees and Biofuelwatch are asking prospective parliamentary candidates for the 2024 UK General Election to sign the following pledge to call for an end to subsidies for tree burning in UK power stations.

The UK Government is spending hundreds of millions of pounds every year in renewable subsidies from UK energy bills to fund tree burning in UK power stations like Drax in Yorkshire and Lynemouth in Northumberland.

This wood burning is devastating forests, wildlife and communities around the world whilst also making the climate crisis worse.

If we are to keep global temperature rises below 1.5 degrees and prevent the worst impacts of climate breakdown, we need to protect and restore the world’s forests, not burn them in power stations.

Our future MPs have the power to transfer these subsidies from tree burning to genuine climate solutions like home insulation and wind and solar power. This would help to create new green jobs and also protect forests, wildlife, communities and the climate.
