Training Bootcamp: Action Safety
From the Black Lives Matter uprisings to Minnesota’s “Day of Truth and Freedom” to the No Kings protests and more, large-scale mobilizations require many people with specific skills working in coordination to succeed.
If you’ve ever been curious how events like these work and want to learn the skills involved, join Free DC and partners for a Skill Training Bootcamp the week of November 16-19. Over four consecutive nights we’ll offer trainings on key skills like How to Mobilize, Action Comms, Action Safety, and Sounds + Visuals.
On Wednesday, November 18, Action Safety will talk about the people who help keep large events as safe as possible: crowd marshals, legal observers, and other de-escalators. If you're someone who looks out to make sure your friends all stay together, this is the training for you!
This training includes three breakout sessions: Jail Support, Marshals, and Legal Observers. Attendees should select one of these sessions.
Jail Support: Advocate for community members arrested during protests, and provide material support after they are released.
Marshals: Work as a team to keep people safe by organizing groups of people and communicating safety preparedness.
Legal Observers: Monitor law enforcement during protests and public demonstrations. This training is provided in partnership with the DC National Lawyers Guild, and additional registration with the DC NLG is required here. Registration for the Legal Observer training will close on November 11.
This event will be held in the 20009 zip code. Attendees will be vetted prior to being allowed to participate. Attendance confirmation and logistics details will be provided via email by Friday, November 13.
