Gavin Newsom, Democratic governor of California, has been elevating and embracing right-wing media stars such as Charlie Kirk and Steve Bannon by featuring them as guests on his new podcast. This is not just alarming, it’s irresponsible and the complete opposite of what we need from our progressive and Democratic elected officials right now.

New York Times’ Michelle Goldberg called Newsom’s interviews with these extremists “a demeaning display of submission.”

California has long been a beacon of progress, and we need you, Governor Newsom, to be the steadfast champion of these values that you claim to be. Please join Governor Pritzker in standing firm for justice and equity — not in giving more oxygen to those who work against these ideals.

Last month Pritzker positioned himself at the forefront of elected officials against Trump by invoking Nazis’ rise to power as a warning about the dangers of Trump and his administration’s onslaught of destructive actions.

“It took the Nazis one month, three weeks, two days, eight hours and 40 minutes to dismantle a constitutional republic,” Pritzker said.
