Join Utah's Rapid Response Election Defenders Team
We are recruiting a rapid response team to be ready when our elections need us. We can't wait until something goes wrong.
Why we need to be ready. A rapid response team exists for the moments most of us hope won't come — but being prepared is what makes a fast, lawful response possible. On Election Day, that could mean armed civilians at polling places, or federal agents deployed near drop boxes and polls. After Election Day, it could mean attempts to stop ballot counting, canvassers refusing to certify, federal seizure of ballots or voting machines, or Congress refusing to seat winners. We're building a team across Utah so that if any of these happen here — or anywhere in the country — we're ready to mobilize as observers, witnesses, and community supporters.
Across the country, some leaders are working hard to undermine trust in our elections, weaken voting rights, and make it harder for people to have their voices heard. This is not a future threat — attacks on our elections and the people who administer them are happening now. We recognize these threats, and we are organizing to stop them. Our democracy depends on every eligible voter having the freedom to participate without intimidation, interference, or barriers.
Defending the vote is our collective duty. When our elections are under threat, we step up, protect the vote, and make sure every ballot is safely counted.
What joining means. This is not a training program and not a legal effort. This is a commitment network: people who agree now, before anything happens, to show up if and when a triggering moment arrives. What that looks like in practice:
- On Election Day, we follow the lead of the ACLU and the League of Women Voters and support what they put in motion.
- After Election Day, our focus: if anyone attempts to stop counting, block certification, seize ballots or machines, or block winners from taking office, we mobilize immediately — in public, in numbers, and peaceably — as witnesses and community supporters of election officials doing their lawful jobs, wherever in Utah we're needed. And if the moment requires, we mobilize in support of other states facing the same attacks. What happened in 2020 taught us these attempts don't stay in one place — and that they're beaten when many people respond at once, not when one does.
Our commitment: We show up peacefully, lawfully, and together. We do not confront, obstruct, or escalate. We stand where we're needed, we bear witness, and we support the people counting our votes and upholding the law.
Here's the deal: You will only be contacted if we need you. No newsletters, no weekly Zooms, no spammy emails. We'll only reach out when something is actually happening — and when we do, we'll tell you exactly where to go and what to do.
Sign up. Be ready. Here's hoping we never have to call you.
