Get involved with Pembroke House

Ever since we were founded by student volunteers from Pembroke College, Cambridge 135 years ago, getting stuck in has been a vital part of Pembroke House.

Shocked at the inequality and division of inner-city life, they took up residence in a house in Walworth, South London with a mission to bring people together and build a better neighbourhood.

Their legacy is Pembroke House, which today runs over 30 different community, well-being, arts and education projects for local residents of all ages in normal times, and an emergency Food Distribution Hub supporting over 1,000 neighbours during COVID-times.

And there are still many ways to get stuck in:

Volunteering

When the COVID-19 crisis struck, Pembroke House turned on its head in the space of days to bring together a vital neighbourhood response.

Now, over 300 volunteers are working in-person and remotely to support those most in need through the crisis with free online wellbeing activities, essential neighbourhood resources and an Emergency Food Distribution service for those struggling with food insecurity.

Talking

We know that food projects like ours are addressing the symptoms, not the root causes, of the problem. We need to come together in new ways to find solutions that tackle the underlying causes of inequalities like food poverty.

So we've started hosting community discussions to help us develop a long-term, sustainable approach to tackling food poverty in Walworth, and everyone is invited.

Donating

Pembroke House's work has only ever been possible thanks to generous contributions from people who believe in our vision of a better society.

Today, donors continue to be a vital part of the life of Pembroke House. To make a one-off donation, or join our regular giving family, the Pembroke House Society, click here.
