Mother’s Day 2023 Barred Business Foundation will participate in the Black Mama's Bail Out. Black Mama's Bail Out is an annual event that was launched in 2017 to bring attention to the more than 540,000 Americans who are locked up every day without being convicted of a crime, according to a recent Prison Policy report. The same report notes that incarceration rates for women of color are rising faster than men, mainly because they can’t afford bail. And 62 percent of them are mothers of minors.  

When our Black mamas and caregivers are trapped in cages, our families and communities suffer tremendously. Children are left to fill in the gap of a motherless home. Until we abolish bail and mass incarceration,  we have to free ourselves. The Mama's Day Bailouts go beyond freeing mothers from pre-trial detention. We connect mothers with the supportive services they need once they are released from pre-trial detention centers.
