We’re here for each other
We knew that we would have to come together to weather the storm of the COVID-19 pandemic. That is why we created Kapit-Bisig Laban COVID Toronto. We join many organizations across Toronto concerned about the rights and welfare of Filipinos in Canada, particularly those who are undocumented migrant workers.
Kapit-Bisig is facilitating mutual aid efforts and looking for funds to provide food, PPE, and essentials (e.g. diapers, over-the-counter medication, etc.) to our members. Many are migrant workers, undocumented, out of work or essential workers in low-wage jobs. Some have been left out of government assistance measures like the CERB and EI.
We’ll get through this together
Kapit-Bisig means ‘linked arms’ in Tagalog - together is how we’ll get through this pandemic. We work to address their basic material needs while also educating them on their rights and community power during this precarious time. Kapit-Bisig Laban COVID Toronto is serving more than 80 migrants and their families in the Toronto area (and counting).
