Your donation will help us fight to make sure our Clean Elections Program remains a strong and viable deterrent to corruption and continues to level the playing field for candidates.
Right now we are working to make sure that Governor Malloy to uses his line item veto power on the current budget to STOP the following:
- Increasing the contribution limit for participating candidates 2.5 times the current level. This only helps incumbents and people with wealthy contacts. In addition to tilting the playing field to people with money this will likely cost the state more money by making it easier for rich people to qualify and it did not go through the regular legislative process because there is not a need for it.
- Restricting the State Election Enforcement Commission’s (SEEC) ability to investigate and act on wrongdoing by restricting them to an arbitrary one-year deadline allowing wrong doers to play beat the clock. To meet this arbitrary deadline would force SEEC to hire many new staff people or to make more criminal referrals to keep investigations alive, thus costing the state more money.
