Right now, across the Darling Downs, countless native birds, possums, and microbats are struggling to find safe places to live and raise their young.
As mature trees for housing developments are cleared due to the lack of tree protections, the natural hollows they depend on for shelter are disappearing. But together, we can make a difference.
The Darling Downs Environment Council (DDEC) is calling on our community to help fund the materials needed to build and install wildlife nest boxes across our region. These boxes provide essential habitat for hollow-dependent species such as kookaburras, galahs, rosellas, gliders, and microbats — giving them a fighting chance to survive and thrive.
Every dollar raised goes directly towards timber, screws, sealant, and installation equipment — enabling High Schools, Scouts, Men’s Sheds, and community volunteers to build and install nest boxes in areas where wildlife need them most.
Donate and Win!
Every two months, all donors from the previous two months will go into the draw to win a special local prize, delivered straight to your door as a thank-you for your support.
Prizes will showcase local producers, artists, and environmentally friendly businesses from across the Downs.
It’s our way of saying thank you for helping protect our wildlife.
