In the heart of Appalachia, the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum promotes and protects a legacy of working people standing up together to fight for their rights. In 2022, we launched new and ambitious projects to take our programming beyond our four walls and:
build commemorative markers along miners’ 50-mile march route to Blair Mountain,
activate union martyr Sid Hatfield’s apartment in Matewan as a public history site, and
expand our online and in-person archive, bringing never before seen Mine Wars history to the public.
As we create historical sites and education programs of national interest, we are also working more deeply with coalfield communities, surfacing new labor histories, building public monuments together, and extending our educational programs to larger audiences. Please join us in our mission!
Your donation supports the Museum’s mission to educate, preserve, and share the stories of mineworkers and their families’ struggle for workers’ dignity and rights throughout the U.S.
We’ve suggested levels of giving below, but any contribution makes it possible for the Museum to continue our groundbreaking work uplifting people’s working class history.
