Forced birth is critical to the ongoing exploitation of life. In the midst of pregnancy, we find ourselves weighing the cost of diapers against the cost of rent, the time we may get for family leave against the time our children could have on a planet that is running out of water. We weigh the indignity of a broken healthcare system against the traumatic experiences of our friends’ abortions and miscarriages. And now we add to these humiliating set of calculations the violence of a forced birth against the possibility of being tried for murder. It would be absurd to call this a pro-choice movement when these are our “choices.” Instead of choosing, it is time to decide - we can decide to take this not as a loss, but as a provocation. We can decide to meaningfully transform the political, social, and economic terrain - to redefine life itself. We can decide now to strike back.
Before the Supreme Court makes a final vote, we aim to shut down major sectors of the national economy, including healthcare workers, teachers, and public works officials to make them calculate the true cost of this decision. This attack on reproductive autonomy will be met with a total counterattack on the productive forces that keep this economy afloat. Action Committees for Reproductive Autonomy (ACRA) is a emerging platform for elevating the efforts and calls to protest, strike, organize and struggle for abortion rights. Set up strike funds, organize action committees, build support networks, and devise strategies for action on an unprecedented scale until our demands are met.
