PVD Bike Collective is now Lefty Loosey Bike Collective! We are the same worker-run community bicycle workshop you know and love, just with a new name.
Why the change? “Providence Bicycle Collective” was always meant to be a placeholder name and has led to some confusion between us and other similarly named organizations in the area. 4 years in, we also wanted to have a name that more explicitly reflected our values. And so, Lefty Loosey was born!
This January also marks two years since we moved to our current home at 50 Sims Ave and we’ve accomplished a LOT in that time! We've repaired and redistributed over 100 bicycles through partner organizations and directly out of our shop, supported hundreds of people to repair their own bikes, and brought our total number of mechanics class alumni to over 100. We've also had the opportunity to host dozens of workshops, mending parties, and other gatherings in our shop space.
As we enter this new phase, we are also launching this fundraiser! We’ve done a few of these in the past, but this time are specifically seeking monthly sustaining donors as well as one-time donations. Having a predictable monthly revenue will go a long way in helping us keep the lights on and grow sustainably into the future.
Our goal is to sign up 25 sustaining donors (at any dollar amount) and raise $5,000 in one-time donations between now and February 1! To become a sustaining donor, just select “Make This Recurring Monthly” checkbox beneath your donation.
Donations will help pay for:
- rent and utilities
- labor for teaching workshops and refurbishing bikes
- consumables at the shop (tubes, tires, grease, tools, spare parts)
- stipends for our mechanics class
If you've ever volunteered your time, donated, told a friend about us, or come by the shop to fix up a bike, THANK YOU! We plan to wrap up the fundraiser with a party at the shop on Saturday, Feb 1st (more details to come) and hope you will be able to make it, regardless of your ability to donate! We are nothing without our community. We can't wait to keep building into the future with all of you :)
