Join the Resistance: Stop the Defence Universities Alliance, Save our Education
Universities should be spaces for education, critical thinking, and social good — not increasingly embedded within military structures.
dED is launching a coalition and campaign to resist the Defence Universities Alliance and calling for greater accountability, transparency, and resistance to the growing militarisation of higher education.
The Defence Universities Alliance (DUA) is a new Ministry of Defence initiative turning UK universities into formal partners in the UK's war machine. By signing up, universities commit to growing research and careers in military technologies.
Why We Must Resist
The DUA threatens academic freedom by redirecting research from social and environmental needs toward military applications, compromising institutional independence, and creating ethical conflicts for students and staff who oppose war.
Become a Member for £25 annually
We are building a nationwide resistance to ensure peace stands a chance. Without this coalition, higher education risks becoming nothing but a corporate and military arm.
For an annual membership fee of £25, you can join the resistance as an individual campaigner, group, society, or organisation.
Your membership directly builds our collective power across the UK by providing you with:
- A Direct Say: Influence the campaign strategy and help shape the resistance
- Exclusive Updates: Quarterly briefings on DUA developments and campaign progress
- Resistance Tools: Access to templates, resources and organising tools tailorable for your local context
- 1-1 Support: Dedicated calls with the dED team to support your local campaign efforts
- Community Connection: Link with fellow resistance members across the university sector and peace movement.
By joining, you will be added to a coalition email list where discussion and updates will take place.
Why Act Now?
If we don’t act now, the Ministry of Defence will try to, and possibly succeed, at conscripting every university and young mind in the UK. The government’s "whole of society" approach will envelop every community and institution.
The MoD has already selected 35 founding members to lead the Defence Universities Alliance. Almost 100 universities applied to join.
We cannot let hope for intellectual enquiry fall with the pursuit of profit from violence.
Join us in resisting the DUA, bringing hope to save our education from further militarisation.
Contributing to the organising costs is encoruaged by not required. If you would like to join the coalition but can not pay, please email hiya@ded1.co asking to be added to the coalition email list.
The Universities and Arms Database is the only infrastructure tracking university partnerships with the arms trade. Without it, there is no accountability. To further sustain our work make larger donations here, or for a different support option, please buy a T-Shirt.
