Update! We raised what we need for the mailbox and stamps, and are continuing to fundraise to directly support political prisoners.
SAFE Boulder is fundraising for a collective mailbox and letter writing supplies to scale up our political prisoner support efforts.
For the past several months, we have organized private letter writing events to support our comrades behind bars. We are now getting ready to scale up our solidarity efforts with public letter writing events (and more!) In order to make this happen in a way that aligns with our commitment to security culture & resilient movement infrastructure, we will rent a mailbox for folks to send and receive letters from. The mailbox costs about $220/year, and everything above that will be used to pay for stamps, letters, and envelopes.
We hope to start running public letter writing events this year after we get the mailbox setup.
Prisoner support is crucial for radical movements to survive repression. We must support those who fought for us, or who were unjustly thrown into the State's dungeons.
If you have never written to a prisoner, or are skeptical of the importance of this kind of organizing, please listen to (former) political prisoner Eric King speak on the impacts of inside-out prison organizing. If you would like to form a group like this, check out the Anarchist Black Cross startup guide.
Thank you for your support, and we hope to see you at our prisoner support events soon.
Until every cage is free.
-SAFE Boulder
P.S. We are very grateful for Boulder County DSA to operate as our fiscal sponsor. The funds live in Boulder County DSA's bank but are controlled & allocated by SAFE's democratic process.
