In April 2022, a small collective signed the lease for 144 & 146 Sydney Road, Coburg (Melbourne, Australia) with the intention of establishing a radical leftist community space. A series of open meetings occurred throughout May, June and July 2022 in which folks decided upon the governance structure, layout of the space and decision-making processes. In early August 2022, a Federation of collectives was formed as the governance structure for the space. The space was named Catalyst Social Centre.

The Federation

The federation is made up of approximately 15 collectives and is growing! Some of the collectives perform specific functions within the centre, for example upkeep of a particular area. Other collectives organise meetings and events in the centre. Some of the collectives are open to new members, and others are closed. However, collective membership to the federation is open.
