DSA-LA For Rocío Rivas Working Group
Dr. Rocío Rivas is an LAUSD graduate, parent, and organizer fighting for a strong public education system that serves the needs of students and the broader Los Angeles community. Dr. Rivas has spent countless years fighting to keep public education a public good that brings working people of all backgrounds together despite the efforts by billionaires and right wing political forces that have tried to dismantle and privatize public education.
She currently serves as Vice President of the LAUSD Board of Education, representing Board District 2. In addition she chairs several committees, including Greening Schools and Climate Resilience. Dr. Rivas is a strong advocate for immigrant rights and social housing, she has supported naturalization clinics, "Know Your Rights" workshops, and affordable housing for unhoused students and staff. She was instrumental in passing Measure US, a $9 billion bond to modernize LAUSD campuses for climate resiliency. Dr. Rivas brings a deeply rooted, community-first vision to public education—grounded in justice, equity, and the belief that every student deserves to thrive.
When DSA-LA endorses someone or something that means not only are we vouching for them/it, we are also going to put in work in support of the candidate or initiative by forming a working group that will volunteer hundreds of hours organizing canvasses, phone banks, doing research, making content for social media, and more. It is a massive commitment to make and depends on large amounts of chapter enthusiasm and labor to mobilize and succeed in our electoral work.
