Proposal for how to work when separation needs occur:
Many countries have both a Fridays for future movement and a School Strike 4 Climate movement. In the case of School Strike 4 Climate the people are clearly in ‘school’, normally under 18. School strike 4 climate, who are normally supported by their ‘own’ parents and often have a Fridays For Future local group to together work with and within.
If there is a need for a work group to be ‘separated’ by sex, sexual identity, race, age or another reason this is allowed and it is preferred that this shows in the name of the work group. This is intended to reduce confusion for outsiders.
Work groups are best sized at 6 people and work poorly beyond 12 people. Therefore if a sub group feels a need for ‘separation’ then this need not be seen as discrimination. As this is filling a potential ‘need’. For example, some people may need to have smaller groups to work with strengthen their own voice. This is only discrimination if they are ‘stopping’ another work or local group from forming or working.
One example of separation need can be in age ‘youth’, often aged from 19-29 years. There are many names e.g. FFF youth town or country or Youth Strike for Climate town or country. Also, by starting from 19 years means that school children are not directly exposed to issues which can be difficult to cope without the support of their own parents and other adults.
