GECAN's purposes are to:
- to promote community awareness of climate change and greenhouse gas emissions from within the City of Glen Eira and the broader community.
- to initiate and promote greenhouse gas emission reductions, and to achieve emission reductions at least as ambitious as the targets adopted by Glen Eira Council on 5 May 2020,
- to promote biodiversity, sustainable living and amelioration of the impacts of climate change in Glen Eira and beyond, and
to procure funding from appropriate sources for use in the above purposes.
