Heather's love for public service stems from her background in healthcare. Heather had the great pleasure of working at Superior Woods were she was able to care for many members of our community. She found the work to be very humbling and rewarding. Since working their Heather graduated from Washtenaw Community College with her Associates Degree in Nursing. Heather later received her Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Siena Heights in Adrian.
Since then, Heather has worked for a hospital in an operative setting. She became very active in the nursing union, UMPNC. She now serves as the Vice-Chair for 5,000+ members. Heather serves on the Congress on Public Policy for the Michigan Nurses Association as well as their Political Action Committee. Heather loves the labor movement and understands the needs of the working class person.
Growing up, Heather was able to see how hard her family had worked for generations. Her Great Grandparents, Keith and Virginia Metty, owned their own real estate company in Ypsilanti. Her Grandfather, Robert "Bob" Bowers worked for the Road Commission before retiring to enjoy time with his wife, Bonnie Bowers. Heather's parents William "Bill" and Debbie Jarrell have always emphasized the importance of hard work and perseverance. Her younger brother, Jack Jarrell, is still attending Ypsilanti Community Schools.
Heather has also been very grateful for her very supportive husband and his family. As mentioned before, Heather married Rick and Karen (Lovejoy) Roe's only son. Heather also, and very thankfully, gained four sisters Jessie (Erick Moberg), Rachel (Josh Arnold), Sarah and Hannah.
In the past Heather had the great opportunity to help campaign for the current board members Brenda Stumbo, Karen Lovejoy Roe and Larry Doe. Heather was able to work alongside them and gain knowledge and experience with their guidance. They worked very hard together as a team and Heather hopes to serve with them again in the near future.
Heather hopes to take her interest in public service and use it to better serve the community that she lives in and loves. Heather strongly believes that is it imperative that younger professionals become more active with serving their communities. In order for our community to remain strong and vibrant, involvement of different generations is a must.
