Justice for Blue Licks

logog

A group of over 40 residents in Robertson County are fighting to stop a limestone mining quarry next to Blue Licks State Park in Piqua, KY. An out of state mining company named Olde World Stone,LLC obtained their mining permit on May 10th. they have been working there steadily since February 23rd of this year. Not only does Blue Licks State Park and Blue Licks Nature Preserve, which contains Short’s Goldenrod, bound the quarry property, but there is also an endangered mussel species in the Indian Creek that runs through the property. The noise from the excavation and stripping can be heard for miles and the damage can been seen from Highway 165. This mining operation will have a devastating impact on the natural ecosystem around Blue Licks State Park and be a burden and nuisance to surrounding neighbors and visitors to the park.
