Justine Cuccia's Campaign for NYS Assembly District 61

A BETTER NEW YORK

I’m Justine Cuccia, the pragmatic, progressive, Democrat running to represent the 61th NYS Assembly District, which includes, after re-districting changes, Battery Park City, the southern portion of the Financial District, Greenwich South, much of the World Trade Center complex and the North Shore of Staten Island.

I will continue to advocate to make our homes affordable and livable, our small businesses viable, and our schools incubators for success. I will continue to stand up to all who treat Lower Manhattan and Staten Island as a piggy bank or a dumping ground. I will continue to support transparent, open dialogue between government and communities, on resiliency, affordability, and sustainability. And as your Assembly member, I will oppose all the powers that with decades of bad policy have been forcing the working class, middle class and seniors out of their homes while allowing the supply of low income affordable housing to decrease and the houseless population to explode.

A wife, mother, sister and daughter, I am also a 9/11 cancer survivor. Battling cancer gave me the courage to address another health issue I have grappled with since childhood: alopecia and the resultant body dysmorphia. While I have beat cancer and shed my hairpiece, the headscarf is evidence that the latter is a work in progress.
