Data centers pose an existential risk to the community of southern Nevada, the workers movement, and the wider socialist movement. They are being constructed to fuel increasingly demanding LLM AI models, and this has already fueled a job market crisis. We have seen countless layoffs from CEOs who think they can make a quick dollar from exploiting their workers one last time. Capitalism is not built for tools like AI models to improve workers lives, instead capitalists use every opportunity to squeeze their workers for more.

Data Centers are being built up around the country so that companies like Palantir and organizations like ICE can conduct mass surveillance of the American people. The American government has also admitted to AI now being a fundamental aspect of its war plans.

Data Centers are a blight on the environment and the communities that they’re built in. They create pollution, demand exceedingly high amounts of water that we don’t have, and increase the local temperature at a time where Las Vegas is suffering its hottest year on record.

Through this campaign we will work towards limiting the construction and growth of data centers throughout the Valley.
