MAMA+ Health Policy Collaborative (the New Orleans Momnibus)

The MAMA+ Health Policy Collaborative is a coalition of policy advocates, clinicians, researchers, birth workers, community leaders, and birthing people working to end the maternal health emergency and close maternal health gaps for Black and brown birthing people in Louisiana.

Since 2021, we have advanced the MAMA+ Health Policy Agenda, also known as the New Orleans Momnibus, during every Louisiana Legislative Session. The Agenda features 11 policy titles that target the social, clinical, and structural drivers of maternal health, from expanding postpartum Medicaid and diversifying the perinatal workforce to protecting reproductive rights and supporting incarcerated birthing people.

The Collaborative is led by the Institute of Women & Ethnic Studies (IWES), Birthmark Doula Collective, H.E.R. Institute, and The Amandla Group. Our action alerts and letter campaigns are administered by The Amandla Group, a trusted partner and consultant since the Agenda launched in 2021.
