This is a pivotal moment.
In winter 2025, the UK Government announced that Named Community Sponsorship will become a primary route for refugee resettlement. Through Named Sponsorship, communities can:
- Build safe, legal routes to protection
- Welcome people they already know and care about β friends, family, students, congregation members, teammates
- Strengthen community cohesion
- Put real agency over migration into local hands
There is huge public willingness to step forward. But without urgent mobilisation, that goodwill wonβt translate into real capacity. We need civil society leadership now to make this a reality.
Where are we now? (May 2026)
The Government has committed to developing a Named Sponsorship route, and civil society is working closely with the Home Office to co-design the scheme.
We are hopeful the scheme will launch in 2026, with applications opening later this year.
But this will only happen if we demonstrate strong, visible demand.
How can you get involved? (May 2026)
