North Alabama DSA

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest and fastest growing socialist organization in the United States, with over 92,000 members and over 234 chapters and organizing committees in communities and on campuses spanning every US state. We believe that it is the multiracial Working Class which actually creates all wealth, and therefor, that it should be working people who collaborate to decide democratically the best ways that these resources should be deployed in order to meet and support human needs in our communities, rather than continuing to restlessly drive the unsustainable model of endless profits for a select but unelected few to subjugate the world with that is Capitalism.

To that end, we seek to organize working people into fights against bosses, landlords, corporations, and corrupt politicians, and to take the power back from them. We are a political and activist organization - not a Party - and across our various chapters, DSA members use a variety of tactics, from legislative to direct action, to fight for reforms that empower working people. Some specific initiatives we support and organize around include: Medicare for All, College for All, Housing for All, a Green New Deal, Police and Prison Abolition, and so much more.

The North Alabama Organizing Committee was officially founded in 2020 in the midst of the COVID19 pandemic, and we cover the area from the north state line down to Cullman County (below which, Birmingham DSA holds primacy). Since then, we've supported several local community outreach and organizing activities ranging from directly supporting homeless communities with food, supplies, and medical treatment; to protesting in support of Black Lives against Police Brutality and demanding accountability and change for this broken and racist system; to partnering with other local organizing efforts which are being led by people who have been most marginalized in our society to foster Solidarity and better understand their needs and desires. We are a quickly-growing group with members from a breadth of background experiences of the daily struggles of living in the Rural South.
