North Jersey Sierra Club
John Muir and a group of friends banded together in 1892 to ensure that the National Parks and Public Lands are protected and accessible to everyone. Since then, our scope has evolved to ensure that we’re protecting the natural and human environment, but our purpose is unchanged: to bring people together to defend our natural resources and everyone’s right to enjoy them.
North Jersey Sierra club is a group associated with the NJ Chapter of the Sierra Club. We welcome members from Passaic and Bergen County's and work closely with other groups in adjacent counties, including Hudson County. Our actions include public awareness events and advocacy. We are a proud member of Empower NJ and the Don't Gas the Meadowlands Coalition AND we work closely with organizations such as Food & Water Watch, Clean Water Action and 350NJ. Our local focus is to eliminate commercialization of undeveloped public lands (including park lands), support restoration rather than remediation of polluted sites, canvas for environmentally friendly public representatives, advocate for the elimination of fossil fuels in favor of renewable energy, AND work toward environmental, social and economic justice.
