Praxis Initiative is Arizona’s only nonprofit organization founded and led by formerly incarcerated and directly impacted individuals, dedicated to increasing government transparency and accountability while improving community health and public safety. We lead efforts to educate and inform the public, lawmakers, and policymakers who shape the broader criminal legal system. Guided by bold, actionable policies rooted in lived experience and community impact, our mission centers on four key areas: advocating for independent oversight of Arizona’s prisons, advancing meaningful criminal legal system reform, addressing substance use risks with treatment-focused approaches, and improving maternal and infant health outcomes through innovative programs like substance use-trained doulas. Every aspect of our work prioritizes safety, accountability, transparency, and human dignity.
