WHAT IS RESTORE OAKLAND INC?

We are non-profit organization tackling systemic issues by on an interpersonal, community, and city wide level. Our focus on building a safe and thriving Oakland unfolds into a multi-pronged approach including restorative economics, healing justice, and decarceration organizing. Please scroll down and take a look at some of our campaigns, actions, and circles we are currently running.

OUR VISION

We envision an Oakland that celebrates our inherent interconnectedness, where communities feel safe and residents are supported by a restorative economy and a thriving cultural community.

We build towards a world where resources in our city are controlled democratically by the community.

We envision a world where healing isn’t seen as a luxury, but rather a valued part of building people power.

We invest in our community-owned building that holds permanent spaces where local residents can gather to be their full authentic selves and deepen relationships.

First and foremost we are relationship builders. Our values center reciprocity, courage, and belonging. As staff, partners, and participants, we are building long term pathways towards a liberatory future.

OUR APPROACH

We’re Place-Based – We create accessible spaces for folks to gather, activate, and heal towards iterating the world we need.

We Heal – We hold weekly circles, centering the needs of formerly incarcerated folks and BIPOC entrepreneurs. We lead harm + conflict transformation processes. We host trainings on circlekeeping and transformative responses to harm and conflict.

We Organize – We work on campaigns to enhance community safety and prosperity. Our efforts include halting the expansion of Santa Rita Jail, creating mutual aid models to decarcerate and support reentry, and organizing small businesses to empower Black, Indigenous, Asian, and other People of Color in Oakland.
