REAL People's Organizing Collective

Oakland, CA

We aim to create an alternative chamber of commerce with a political voice that reflects Black and Brown businesses and co-ops to build a regenerative economy to advance community safety, deliver affordable commercial spaces, and develop worker power in Oakland and Alameda County.

Our Points of Unity

  1. The current economy isn’t working and actively harms our environment and our communities. Our economy doesn’t have to work this way and we can create an equitable and democratic economy for all of us

  2. We want communities who have faced oppression through shared struggles against white supremacy, colonization, and imperialism to come together to collectively own, govern, and manage assets and land; to build political power; and to create long-term systemic transformation.

  3. We see community safety arising from supportive social institutions like small businesses, which deserve economic opportunities and access to basic resources and care.

  4. We do not believe that incarceration, mass surveillance, and policing leads to public safety, instead seeing these practices harming our communities and diluting our economic power

  5. We believe that small business workers deserve a well-compensated, dignified workplace and have the right to organize unions or employee ownership

  6. We prioritize the voices and needs of Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian-American Pacific Islander, People of Color and intersectional identities that rest within BIPOC identities: LGBTQ2S+, disabled, undocumented peoples
