Save Our Shores
Save Our Shores' history is deeply woven into the creation of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Since our founding as a grassroots movement to prevent offshore oil drilling in 1978, we've worked hard to protect our ocean backyard from a host of ongoing and escalating threats. We've been instrumental in ending illegal sand mining along our Sanctuary’s shores, successfully advocating for groundbreaking single-use plastic reforms, and so much more.
Our ocean, the blue lungs of our planet, is under attack — from climate change to plastic pollution, wildlife disturbance to habitat degradation — and a Dec 2019 study found that the waters off California are acidifying twice as fast as other world seas.
At Save Our Shores, we work hard every day to inform and educate the public, foster the next generation of ocean stewards, promote smarter marine environmental policies, motivate and catalyze citizen action, and protect and conserve our precious local marine environment.
