Southwest Washington Communities United for Change

Vancouver, WA
Southwest Washington Communities United for Change (SWCUC) has been an informal grassroots, community based group started in August of 2018. We originally came together to begin talking about how we can protect our youth of color in Southwest Washington from race based attacks after a 17 year old African-American boy was assaulted by a 22 year old “Proud Boy” at Vancouver Mall. It did not take long for us to realize that we needed to remain together to build a formal organization that will support our Communities of Color in Southwest Washington.
On September 1, 2018 our group members decided we would formalize the group as a grassroots, social justice organizing group centered and rooted in equity at all levels. Our formal planning team consists of women, men, and children of color living in Vancouver, Washington with the plan to expand into Kelso, Washington by the end of September 2018. It is our goal to have the necessary structure to ensure our communities of color, specifically marginalized voices within our community have “safe spaces” from which to organize a resistance to racism, sexism, and classism.
WE ARE BOLD, WE ARE BRAVE, WE ARE SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON’S COMMUNITIES UNITED FOR CHANGE....Please join us and stay posted on future activities.
